![]() ![]() I can compare this Troy Built Models P40 to the Hanger 9 P51 and the P47, both lighter and smaller planes, this TBM ARF is HEAD AND SHOULDERS ABOVE the hanger 9 products !!!!!!!!!!!!! And there are no other ARF of this size and no other ARFs that are pre built to this extent. It looks as though they did use a hot glue technique. From my initial inspection the gluing is better than a good job I am just used to my gluing, glue or epoxy is everywhere. I looked at the joinery and this looked excellent, everything cut to perfection. The TBM plane looks to be built appropriately with the initial assessment. The yellow p40 build thread was started December of 2007, yes that is 2007, and the builder is still building. I know that I said this twice, but … enough time is what so many of us are lacking. ![]() This type of plane to get this far is 4 or 10 or 16 months of building. WOW !!!! To get this far in the building process is months. Later I placed the plane on the grass to check things out. I had to place the crate on the passenger’s side and move the front seat further forward. My goal as per the statements of TBM is to have this plane ready to fly in 4 to 6 weeks, we will see what happens. I plan on flying this to somewhat scale but not as in the video prescribed by TBM. I plan on using a G62, Futaba 2.4 “7†channel receiver, HiTech 645 MG servos. I will give an update regarding factory construction of the plane, factory painting of the plane, factory finishing of the plane, engineering, building and assembly of the plane etc…….Īnd look forward to other comments from the other 9 pilots that just received their shipment. Hanger 9 P51 - 150, WildHare Extra 300, Great Planes Super Stearman, etc……. My current inventory includes Yellow Aircraft: Three P47’s, one Zero, one Texan, one P38, and one Spitfire. Since the downfall in the economy I had to pay for the plane, so I am not going to cut TBM any slack !!! Thus, I am going to give TBM’s P40 a shot. A P38 is a whole year!Įasy ARF and quick to build hours, And 150 hours on a YA P47 is too much, need less to say a Ziroli or Iron Bay or such. I like to build but 400 hours on a YA Spitfire is a bit too much for me. And, others of us are looking for a great Warbird easy to assemble and easy to fly.Īgain, this is where I come in. Some pilots love to build and spend months or even a year creating a work of flying art. Thus this is where I come in.īuilding a kit either with a built up fuselage or from or sticks, or a foam wing that you cover with balsa and glass is time consuming for all. If you have a pilot that can get in 500 flights without a crash … great, but what did TBM learn. Trying to find the weakness in design and construction, and ease of rebuilding. I am not the greatest pilot around, and this is something TBM was looking for, someone who crashes and rebuilds some of the time. My background is: Building an ample number of Yellow Aircraft Kits. I have yet to receive the model, as it should arrive next week. I am a test pilot for TBM, and I have ordered and I am to receive the TBM P40 in the Flying Tigers paint scheme. Hello, this a forum to discuss the TMB P40 ![]()
